AABR is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist to join our team for one of the greatest programs NYCLI (New York Child Learning Institute) located in College Point, New York!..  You will provide therapy for our students with autism and other rehabilitation services.

Description of Responsibilities:

The individual who occupies this position has at least a certification in occupational therapy, and assists in the implementation of positive behavioral interventions, supports and services.

The individual who occupies this position provides instruction consistent with the individualized education goals of the learners.  Such instruction will include assessment of initial skill level, implementation of individualized occupational intervention goals, and the collection of daily performance data.  The occupational therapist will assist the special education certified teacher in identifying appropriate occupational intervention goals for learners, analyzing performance data to assess the effectiveness of instructional procedures, and preparing written progress reports.

Job responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting individualized evaluations;
  • Participation in determining occupational intervention goals;
  • Individualizing intervention strategies to improve the child’s ability to perform daily activities;
  • Continual analysis of data to ensure that the goals are being met and/or making changes to the intervention plan;
  • Assisting children to eat without help from others;
  • Assisting children to take part in leisure activities;
  • Assisting children to engage in self-help skills; and
  • Assisting children to engage in clean-up responses.

The occupational therapist will: maintain confidentiality about learner’s educational goals and progress, and protect learner’s anonymity in all presentations; maintain professional relationships and a professional interaction style with colleagues, program personnel, learners and their representatives, and members of the community at large; and protect and extend the reputation of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with autistic children highly desired
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • NYS license as an Occupational Therapist required
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills
  • Previous experience in occupational therapy or other related fields
  • Ability to build rapport with students/individuals and parents
  • Passion to help and motivate others
