Dear Friends,

Libby Trainer CEO

This summer at AABR has been a vibrant celebration of our theme: Move, Create, and Meditate. These three words have guided our activities and mindset, encouraging us all to stay active, express ourselves creatively, and take moments to reflect and recharge. I’m excited to share just a few highlights that show how our community has embraced this spirit.

Our residents enjoyed time at AABR’s vacation home on the North Fork of Long Island, spending their days swimming, relaxing at the beach, enjoying fresh seafood, and walking through beautiful lavender fields. These peaceful
yet energizing moments reminded us of the importance of connecting with
nature and taking time to simply enjoy the present.

We also celebrated big wins on the creative front: several of our artists were selected to have their work go on tour with the Spirit of Huntington Art Center, showcasing the incredible talent and vision within our programs. This recognition not only celebrates their artistic accomplishments but also reflects AABR’s ongoing commitment to supporting creative expression.

In the spirit of movement and fun, residents and staff attended local carnivals and street festivals, danced at our 4th of July celebrations, and even caught a Mets game together! Meanwhile, our athletes proudly participated in the Special Olympics, continuing to inspire us with their determination and team spirit.

Wellness has remained a key focus across all our sites. We hosted a successful Wellness Summit and installed hydration stations at each program location to encourage healthy habits. These stations have been especially popular during the hot days of summer, often featuring refreshing flavors like cucumber, lemon, and summer berries.

This issue also features two very special spotlights. The first is on Learie Carrington, one of our long-standing employees who, after more than 30 years, continues to be deeply inspired by his work and the people we serve.

The second highlights Kevin, a resident who has come to associate AABR with joy, freedom, and, most of all—dance. His energy and love of movement are a perfect example of what “moving to the music of life” looks like here.

Our joint staff/individual Fun Committee has helped infuse every corner of AABR with joy this season, reminding us that life is meant to be lived fully, creatively, and in community.
