Employee Spotlight: Learie Carrington

Assistant Director of Residences

1. What is your favorite part about working at AABR?
My favorite part of working at AABR is spending time with the individuals I’ve known for so long and watching them grow and develop over the years.

2. What is something new you’ve recently learned?
As a former mechanic, I recently picked up a new trick for cleaning windshields. I learned that using a razor blade can help scrape off tough oil and soot spots—it really improves visibility and can even help extend the life of your windshield. Funny enough, I didn’t learn this until I brought my car into the shop recently!

3. What’s your favorite hobby or activity to do in your free time?
Soccer is my passion—I love both playing and watching it. I play in pickup games with friends whenever I can. My favorite team is Arsenal in the English Premier League!

4. Do you have a special talent you’d like to share?
I’d say my special talent is being a good listener. People often come to me when they need to talk or vent. I think my calm demeanor makes them feel comfortable, and I’m always glad to be there for them.

5. What’s something you’d like the world to know about you?
I truly love what I do for a living. I believe it’s a calling. I used to be a diesel mechanic working on Caterpillar equipment offshore on drilling platforms. When I first came to AABR, I worked on tractor trailers. Eventually, I went back to school and earned my degree in social work—and now, this is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done.

6. If you had to describe AABR in one word or phrase, what would it be?
Future-thinking. I hope the plans and policies we’re putting in place now will continue to provide the best possible support for the individuals we serve.
