Each weekend in Mattituck brings new memories, growing confidence, and joyful connection for the individuals we serve.
This summer, residents from AABR homes are heading out for weekend getaways at our vacation house in Mattituck — and these trips are becoming the highlight of the season.
What started as a simple retreat has grown into something much more: a chance to build confidence, deepen friendships, and create real moments of joy.
Each weekend brings something new. From painting at vineyards and exploring flower farms to dancing under the stars and visiting local boutiques, there’s no shortage of adventure. Calmer activities like sensory beach walks and lavender-infused meditation offer peaceful ways to recharge and connect.
One weekend felt like a full-on wellness retreat, with candlelight, face masks, and the soothing sounds of panda drums. Another featured an outdoor “club night,” where everyone danced freely in a safe, supportive space.
The pool has quickly become the star of the show — especially for those taking their first-ever swim lessons. Watching individuals go from hesitant to confident in the water has been inspiring for everyone involved.
“A lot of them were nervous at first, but now they’re diving in — literally,” said Rayan Kouider, AABR’s Lifeguard and Recreation Specialist. “It’s incredible to watch that shift happen. There’s so much joy in those moments.”
Every weekend brings new opportunities — new foods, new challenges, new memories. And with each one, growth. For our individuals, and for our staff. We move together, learn together, and celebrate every step forward.
AABR’s vacation house in Mattituck isn’t just a change of scenery — it’s a place where joy, freedom, and belonging take center stage.
