AABR practices a unique approach to supportive care. From the Board of Directors to Direct Care Workers, everyone plays a vital role, and our consumers, the starring role. Given a forum to shape their own lives, consumers are invited to voice their likes, dislikes and aspirations. Ultimately, their goals and wants shape our agency’s actions and choices.
Because of our success, over the years, the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities has often asked our agency to assist other organizations implement our integrated approach to care. We have also tested new pilot programs before they are employed on a statewide level. Our approach is always the same—consumer driven and consumer centered.
- With the assistance of management and staff, consumers have a say in where they want to live, work, volunteer, vacation and even what courses they’d like to take at school
- Consumers voice their viewpoints and concerns about what they would like from our agency through the Consumer Council Review Panel
- Quarterly meetings are held between parents, families and advocates
